Electric Transmission and Distribution
A CONSCIOUS ASSET CASE STUDY
Conscious Asset was engaged to deliver a series of UPTIME training courses to an Electric Transmission and Distribution utility. This was done to introduce successful practices into the field and bring new and recently hired engineering staff up-to-date on maintenance management.
One of Canada’s major utilities was seeing decline in asset reliability and finding regulators more challenging to satisfy. There was a need to introduce successful maintenance and reliability practices and make them part of the engineering culture of the company.
After initial consultation, we were asked to provide our Uptime training, with emphasis on planning, scheduling and reliability methods.
The training was delivered in a series of 3 day courses, complete with simulation exercises that demonstrate strategies of run-to-failure, preventive, and predictive maintenance, and process re-engineering.
The concepts were applied across the various maintenance groups to improve efficiency of service delivery. Reliability Centered Maintenance was introduced for new assets and for review of existing proactive programs. An “island” operation – a remote community serviced by its own generation and distribution was used as a pilot for the entire Uptime model.
